Movies - 2005 Watched- The Terminal Eh. Goodfellas Didn't like it past the first 20 minutes. I saw why Liza liked it, though, same reason she preferred Red Dragon to SotL: The bad guy gets punished. (Though in RD, it's the bad guy doesn't become bad [Graham].) Interview With the Vampire <3, as always; but Louis is damned annoying. was nice watching it with someone who sees it for the porn it is, and was seeing it for the first time Lifeboat Haven't actually sat down and watched it all the way through, but it was on tv several times and I checked in; love as always, <3 Tallulah Red Dawn This was the fourth or fifth viewing. It made me sad this time. The Ninth Gate Jan 23 -- that was . . . interesting. Poorly written. Wooden dialogue. I still enjoyed it. Johnny Depp was beautiful was always. Frank Langella looked like an accountant, which made me very sad. The flying girl ruled. I wanted all the books. Secret Window Jan 24 -- This was a second viewing. Liked it a lot more this time. Johnny Depp is still impressive. His accents are great... oddly there were scenes in this one and the last one of comparing two /almost/ identical books page by page. Casablanca Jan 27 (started) -- I'm not particularly good at paying attention, and Bogart's lack of acting skill bores me (though his voice broke at the train station--I was surprised and pleased) and I can't quite get into the wartime setting because I don't know the history, so I'm amusing myself by picking up anything that could be a homosexual reference (Greenstreet gives Bogie a funny look, a French soldier actually SAYS that if he were a woman he would be in love with Rick.) "I want to speak with him." "I think you would find the conversation a trifle one-sided. He's dead." Cinematography is interesting--a lot of use of shadow. The end! With the one guy! And the leaving together! Disturbing. And why can't Bogart pronounce "bourbon"? o.O Finished Jan 29. The Viking Five Jan 27 -- this was a short stop-animation brickfilm done by Sven van der Hart. Available online [http://www.archive.org/movies/movies-details-db.php?collection=brick_films&collectionid=vikingfive&from=mainPicks]. It was funny and I was quite impressed with the animation itself, but Sven is scarily fascinated by Odin's testicles :p I love the way the credits were done; must keep it in mind. An American Werewolf In London Jan 29 -- Liking it a lot more than An American Werewolf in Paris, but I need a chance to watch it in peace, without dad's tv so loud, and a time when I can stare at it and watch it properly. The transformation was weird and ugly, but the teeth were cool. Why don't werewolf movies ever use real wolves? Or wolf-like dogs? The fully-changed wolf wasn't as bad as the ones from -Paris. And wow, the scene in the subway station. That was definitely a better movie than -Paris. Dinner Rush Jan 29 -- Random mafia/food movie. Nice. "People here only listen to themselves." "Italian as a new language for the fucking." "No butter, absolutely no butter. I know you can do something fascinating without butter." IN AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT, WITH SEAFOOD John Corbett, guy who played Gaffney (Walt McPherson), woman who played Billie Lou, guy who played Samir, a beautiful man in a gray suit. "I'm a detective, I could force you to tell." "I'm a Capricorn, you can't make me do shit." Wow. That movie /ruled/. Usual Suspects Jan 29 -- The last two minutes made the whole thing, which was boring up till that point, a good movie. Enough Jan 30 -- Not sure this counts, as I only watched the last half, but it was oddly captivating. Yes, I use that word for a Jennifer Lopez movie. The little girl is someone to watch, I think. Dracula - 1979 I love this movie. Not the movie itself, but Frank Langella's performance. He is absolutely delicious. This is a rewatch, and I started it early in the month with Sharaya, who wasn't interested, and finished it at 5:25am Jan 31. Tokyo Breakfast Feb 1 -- Six minute short. This. Is. Amazing. The coolest Japanese pilot /ever/. The Big Sleep - 1946 Feb 5 -- Another Bogart movie, Bogart and Bacall. And an old man in a wheelchair whose male friend ("Your... whatever he was." "My /friend/.") disappeared. Goodness. The bookstore scene! Bogart can act! Finished Feb 9 The Picture of Dorian Gray - 1945 Feb 7 -- Hmm. Missed the first few minutes. Was impressed by the colour frames of the portrait. Dorian was too old. Henry spoke too fast. Angela Lansbury was beautiful. Lord of the Flies - 1990 Feb 11 -- What. The. Hell. Was that? I have not the words. That was the worst book-to-movie adaptation I have ever seen. And I have seen Hannibal. The boy who played Jack was beautiful, though. Ed Wood - 1994 Feb 11 -- Now that was much better. Martin Landau was absolutely beautiful. Johnny Depp was terrifying. Lisa Marie was intimidating. Caught on a Train - 1980 Feb 19 -- That. Ruled. I LOVE trains. Peggy Ashcroft was wonderful. Witness Feb 20 -- It was on tv, and I'd never seen it, so I randomly decided to watch. Interestingly, it was mislabeled on the satellite guide as Silence of the Lambs. I liked it. The Amish woman looked familiar. Like a young and thin Tyne Daly. The Aniversary Party - 2001 Feb 23 -- That was . . . certainly interesting. I watched it because of Jennifer Jason Leigh. Amazing that she wrote it. I quite liked it . . . I never know what to say about movies or books because I don't like to give spoilers. One of the best bits was a guy saying, "I need to jump up and down now." and /doing/ it :) Alien Nation: Millenium Feb 25 -- <3! I'd forgotten for a while how much I love Alien Nation. And I was surprised to find that I haven't seen that particular movie before. Odd. Emily stealing baffled me. The woman playing Jennifer alternated between beautifully fascinating and scary. I came to the realization that human women ought to have spots down their backs. Indirectly, the movie made me realize also that when we move out to Grampa's, there will probably be no fireworks to scare my dogs on July 4. Nice. Alien Nation: The Enemy Within Feb 26 -- <3, again. I love /details/! Don Juan DeMarco Feb 26 -- Marlon Brando is beautiful. So's Johnny Depp, of course. And how in the world did Depp manage to fake the covering-up of a Spanish accent?! House of Mirth Feb 25 -- Uhhh. Okay, I didn't watch it. I might finish it later. It's very beautiful, Gillian Anderson and Eric Stoltz in Victorian clothes. But. But. They can't act! That was the most /painful/ attempt at acting I have seen in a long time. Ow. Alien Nation - the original movie March 4 -- I enjoyed it more than the times before, I think. I love the scene at the beach, and the last one at the water. East of Eden -- the one with James Dean March 5 -- Uhhh. I really have nothing to say; that was a terrible movie. The Edge March 14 -- ANTHONY HOPKINS! <3 This movie has some very good lines, and it has AH doing a wonderful voice. This was at least the third time I've seen it. Snow Dogs March 18 -- Typical Disney movie, but I liked it anyway. I don't like Cuba Gooding Jr, but I like dogs ;) Labyrinth March 24 -- Watched this with my nephew Brett. I've lost track of how many times I've seen it, but I'd never watched it with a little kid before . . . "Look at his weiner! It's big! He might have big balls or something." Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas March 26 -- I always wonder if drug movies are trying to make LSD look scary, and then I wonder if I'm the only one to say, "Fuck yeah, now I remember! I still want to try LSD!" Also . . . how was that Johnny Depp?! That was amazing. Possibly his best performance ever, just because he was completely unrecognizable.
