Escaping the hot Atlanta sun by entering the office of Sugarbaker Design Firm, you are struck by the fact that it is not a typical office. It is bright but not harsh, the air is cool, and there is a vague scent of roses. You are standing on a varnished wood floor, but if you take one step down your shoes will meet with a thick, soft gray carpet. To your left is a rather cluttered desk; to your right, an impressive staircase. Hung between the tall windows on the wall to the left are large, faded floral tapestries. The walls to the right are mostly windows, and are obscured by a very well-ordered desk and many, many random pieces of furniture. In front of you is a comfortable living room--a well scrolled cherry coffee table is scattered with interior design magazines, furniture catalogs, and swatch books. A long sofa in dark navy and cerulean vertical stripes sits behind the table; it looks comfortable, though the stripes may be considered too bold by most. End tables matching the coffee table enhance the ends of the sofa, and hold small yet elaborate lamps with blue shades. Inviting cream coloured chairs complete the living room suite, and your eyes move over yet another desk, which gives the impression of being somewhere between the clutter and the order of the previous two. At the other end of the room is the kitchen--a ceramic cow creamer, a coffee maker, a blender and a box of doughnuts from a local bakery sit on the counter.
